Goodbye 8040 Corporate Circle. This morning was the walk through and end of the lease. I still remember signing the original lease back in 2012. The copy of the security deposit was not from a business account; it was from our personal account. I did not even have a business name yet. I had enough of where I was working and decided I wanted to create a place where everyone felt welcomed, and everyone was empowered. Fortunately, my spouse, Doug, was on board and supported me. I remember when I was given the keys to 8040 and realized it was sink or swim. So much needed to be done with no funds to do it. I painted every wall and had cheap carpet installed. My personal cheerleader, Todd, who started his own business years earlier would encourage me and provide sound advice when I was second guessing this literally life changing decision.
Eventually Royalton Psychological Associates opened its doors in August 2012. I had subletters for the other two offices but ended up feeling pretty alone. I was used to working with lots of people and having interactions throughout the day. I was not used to having to promote myself. I made fliers and took Malley’s Candy to the area family and pediatric practices. I set aside one and a half days per week to start. Eventually I built up enough clients to quit my part time job and fly solo. I then grew enough to stop subletting and bring on someone part time. That was my former intern, Evan McBroom. As we all know, he has been here for over nine years.
About three years later we grew even more and took a chance to expand. We took over the empty office next door, brought on more clinical staff, and Katie Lane joined us. We’ve had a wide range of personalities at the practice over the years. The staff we have now are the best ever. We have helped over 1480 clients at 8040. That number astounds me! We have been blessed to have so many individuals and families trust us through some of their darkest times. Though I am confident in my decision to move and expand, I shed a tear this morning saying goodbye to a place that changed my and so many other’s lives. 12608 State Road has some tough shoes to fill, but I have faith this new office will be equally supportive and we able to help even more people. Goodbye 8040 Corporate Circle.
